Overnight we had a power failure. The UPS supporting our firewall and server failed with a bad battery.
I was planning to replace the battery in that UPS during our scheduled maintenance this weekend. Due to the overnight failure, I decided to immediately replace the entire UPS with one that has a higher capacity, 1000W replacing 850W.
The replacement UPS was supporting some internal only hosts and having them off while I replace the battery doesn’t affect the Both.org site.
This has been completed and we are now back up and running.
The weekend of Feb 22 and 23, I’ll be doing system maintenance on the firewall and server.
This will include installing a more powerful CPU in the firewall, and cleaning air filters and all internal components on both systems.
I’ll also be replacing the battery for the UPS that supports the firewall and router, and a fan in the server.
It’s expected that this maintenance will last for several hours during which Both.org will be unavailable.
I’ll try to be more accurate about the specific timing later this week.
Your patience is appreciated.
