Call for articles — Switching to Linux

1

October 25 is the last day of support for Win10 and over 400 million PCs can’t upgrade to Win11. I see lots of posts on Mastodon and BlueSky talking about what to do next and a large number are considering Linux.

So we here at Both.org want to help those people understand their Linux options and ease their fears at making the switch.

So we’re calling for articles that would answer the following questions.

  1. How do I choose a Linux distro?
  2. What’s the best Linux distro for me?
  3. How can I try Linux?
  4. My computer is X years old. Will Linux work on it?
  5. I use X software on Windows. Can I use it on Linux?
  6. I use X software on Windows. What Linux software can I use to replace it?
  7. Will my computer run Linux?
  8. Can I use my existing data on Linux?
  9. What are the best Linux distros for new users?
  10. What Linux distros should a new user avoid?
  11. I need X special hardware. Is it supported by Linux?
  12. Can I buy a computer that already has Linux on it?
  13. Where can I get help with Linux?
  14. Do I have to use the Linux command line?
  15. Do I need to be a programmer to use Linux?
  16. Where can I get more information about Linux?
  17. Why are Linux geeks on social media so anti-social?
  18. What’s the easiest Linux distro to learn?
  19. What’s a distro?
  20. Why are there so many distros?
  21. How does switching to Linux on my old computer help the planet?
  22. Why should I care about Linux when I can just go buy a new computer with Win11 on it?
  23. How much does Linux cost?
  24. Is all open source software free?

…and probably about a bazillion more questions.

Here are some suggestions that aren’t really questions.

  1. My story about getting started with Linux.
  2. Friends helping friends getting started with Linux.
  3. How I got help from my local Linux User Group.
  4. Why I switched to Linux.
  5. How I chose the right distro for me.
  6. Why I just can’t switch to Linux right now.
  7. I should have switched to Linux sooner.
  8. Five reasons I switched to Linux.
  9. Why I’m happy I switched to Linux.
  10. The one thing that convinced me to switch to Linux.

So please pick one (or more) and let us know what you plan to write. And don’t worry if you select the same questions as someone else because you do have a different viewpoint.

We look forward to seeing your articles. Use the directions on our Write for Us page to submit them.

Thanks!
